Basic introduction:
An electric motor used to drive one or more moving axles on a locomotive or motor car. There are many types of traction motors, such as DC traction motors, AC asynchronous traction motors, and AC synchronous traction motors. DC traction motors, especially DC series-excited motors, have good speed regulation performance and working characteristics, and are widely used to meet the needs of locomotive traction characteristics. Two types of suspension
One is the suspension method in which the traction motor and the moving wheel shaft are connected, which is called the axle-holding suspension or semi-suspension. When this suspension method is adopted, the shock vibration generated by the moving wheel passing through the rail slot and the switch will be directly transmitted to the traction motor. The axle-holding suspension is suitable for rolling stock whose structural speed is lower than 120 km/h. The other is the rack-mounted suspension (or full suspension). When this suspension method is adopted, the traction motor is fixedly suspended on the bogie frame, and various elastic connecting elements are added between the shaft end of the traction motor and the small and large gears to reduce the impact of shock and vibration. The frame-mounted suspension is suitable for rolling stock with a structural speed higher than 120 km/h.

When the traction transformer is used to step down and supply power to the DC series excitation traction motor after being rectified by a silicon rectifier or a high-power thyristor, the voltage applied to the traction motor is a pulsating voltage, so this traction motor is called a pulse current traction motor. The "commutation" condition of high-power pulsed traction motors is more difficult. In addition, there are some additional losses inside the motor, which cause the temperature rise of the motor.
